
Richard Drake is a historian of Europe and the United States. He earned a Ph.D. in history at UCLA in 1976. He then taught at UCLA, UC Irvine, Wellesley College, Princeton University, and New York University before joining the University of Montana history department. His courses at UM have included European Cultural and Intellectual History, Contemporary Europe, Italy, the Great Historians, Terrorism in the Modern World, the American Empire, and Ideas and Movements in European and American History. In 2017 he became the inaugural holder of the Lucile Speer Research Chair in Politics and History.
